The song “Let’s Get Physical” was played on a loop at the Viktor & Rolf show on Saturday afternoon. The up tempo single sung by Olivia Newton-John is, of course, a double entendre 80s classic which is an ode to physical activity- both vertical and horizontal.
For designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the focus was clearing on the vertical option.
Going for a sporty themed show, they used happy-go-lucky bold floral patterns and trompe l’oeil pinched plastic prints on voluminous asymmetrical tops and dresses, and sometimes paired them with slim biking shorts.
The experimentation the designers explored in their haute couture show, which saw them attempt to see how many different ways they could manipulate cumbersome carpet fabric, could be spotted on today’s ready to wear catwalk as well.
