Now that Raf has, in a remarkably short space of time, made the classic Dior icons very much his own, he seems to be struggling (at times perhaps a little too hard) to inject them with a sense of his other engagements (contemporary art and mid-century design culture to name two) as he morphs his minimalist sensibility to a House with a maximalist legacy. As the designer’s program notes explained, with this collection he wanted to explore the idea of “twisting, turning, and pushing Dior,” so that “a beautiful rose garden becomes poisonous.”
